      Hi Kristopher! Gender inequality still exists in the art world. You can find out more at canadianart.ca/news/gender-inequality-is-still-real-in-canadas-arts-scene/, bit.ly/3Sr8CPG and nmwa.org/support/advocacy/get-facts/.

      @@VanArtGallery Nothing in this link is an indication of "inequality". The reality of masculinity invokes the "apex" effect. You will always see more men at the top, and you'll also see more men on the bottom. There are many woman that are "ok" artists... but there are going to always be more men who are the apex, likewise there will always be more men who are not very good artists. Merely your link only evidence of a lack of equal outcome. The question is that why you think there should be equal outcomes? Ok, if you want equal outcomes, we need to start sending a lot more women to jobs with the highest death rates, and into jail cells. The sheer amount of investment placed into women these days has robbed a generation of men of moralisation. Your organisation in 50 years time will probably open an exhibit in reference to this modern day discrimination that is leading many men into suicide. The rates of suicide of men is almost 4x that of women and the suicide rates of men is accelerating. The reality is that many men are not into arts these days at all, this is largely do to environmental factors and cultural discrimination happening today against men. The progressive/socialist movements are by and large group pseudo religions that bind and blind their members. This is obvious to anyone outside that group, but what is horrifying is to realise the followers of this culturally suicidal pseudo religion run many cultural institutions in western society.... they control schools, universities, museums, unions, etc.

      @@VanArtGallery The data you are referring to is not too significant when looking at contemporary artists. The reason male artists have more exposure is most of the museums present works of well known, great artists of previous centuries, and they happened to be mostly men because of the inequality (not only on the part of the art world but the whole society) that women experienced. Therefore mostly men got the opportunity to advance in arts, whereas women may have been forced to focus on other professions and homemaking. So to artificially create equality is itself inequality - the same holds true for race or culture. Why do we insist that women and men should be exactly equal in all things? I understand equal opportunities should be available to all humans and then it is up to them to take them on, but why do we expect that working artists should be exactly 50-50 men vs women? I look around and there are plenty if not a majority of women artists. From the links you provided: "Women earn 70% of bachelor of fine arts and 65-75% of master of fine arts degrees in the U.S., though only 46% of working artists (across all arts disciplines) are women." ArtReview’s 2018 Power 100 list of the “most influential people in the contemporary art world” included 40% women-a slight improvement from 2017 (38%) and 2016 (32%). These are not necessarily inequality. There is not a huge gap. Would it not be unfair then to exclude contemporary men from opportunities just because in the old days men had more opportunities? Or to exclude people of other races just because they are not aboriginal? I agree with the comment above that yes, we have gone too far so much that now binary genders, non-aboriginal people, and men are explicitly excluded from many opportunities, and diversity in at least Canadian art world is dying in the name of equality. To respond to inequality with another inequality is meaningless. Simply stop focusing on all these attributes and treat everyone as human beings and allow works that are good to get the exposure they deserve, regardless of gender or race.

    • @djnima
      @djnima Год назад

      I forgot to mention that the men vs women argument goes against your whole gender argument. How do you consider non-binary people (which are increasingly growing in today's artist society) in the data, or perhaps they also account for part of the "gap"? Everything nowadays seems to be about being politically correct rather than being objective or neutral.

      Hi Barbara! As of March 11, 2022, in accordance with the public health orders, masks are no longer required at the Gallery. As of April 8, 2022, proof of full vaccination will no longer be required. This exhibition is on view until May 1, 2022. We hope you will consider a visit. Although the requirement for masks has been removed, the Gallery highly encourages the continued use of masks while in public areas. As we move through this transition period of lifting restrictions, we encourage everyone to respect the comfort levels and choices of those around them, whether they are wearing a mask or not.
